About Us

In 1991, Bernard Ditchfield and Eric Pickersgill worked as two pipefitters at the same company before they were made redundant. Having been made redundant, they set out on their own and created the original business, BEmech.

In 1997, Bernard’s Son, Rob joined the business. Eric left the company shortly after Rob joining the business and a new management team was formed. B-Mech was incorporated as a limited company during the same year.

Rob Ditchfield then took on the role as Managing Director in 2010 following Bernard’s semi-retirement. Since then, the business has accelerated and experienced significant growth and expansion into new service areas.

We now have over 30 years’ experience and are one of the leading, continually evolving M&E building services engineering providers in the North of England.

In 2022, we changed the company to a group structure to better reflect the breadth of services that we now offer and the adoption of new technologies. B-engineering Group replaced Bmech as the primary business identity with six new divisions created within the group.

In response to the challenges presented by climate change, there has been a significant move away from fossil fuels to raise heat, with the adoption of newer technologies such as air source and ground source heat pumps. Additionally, we have also seen growth in both the electrical and air conditioning aspects of our business with particular regard to the phasing out of environmentally damaging refrigerants (CFC’s) to R-32 (HFC’s), more energy efficient HVAC, EV car charging and solar power generation. Previously, these services were tucked away within our projects and support divisions respectively. We therefore had to have a rethink with regards to the businesses structure, one that better reflected the companies wider competencies and as a result six divisions were born.
